Airbus H135-T2

The Airbus Helicopter H135 is a light twin-engined multi-role helicopter. It was developed by the DASA group, which later merged with Eurocopter Deutschland (now Airbus Helicopters) and has since been produced as Eurocopter EC 135.

It is mainly used in air rescue and as a police helicopter or for similar tasks. It is also increasingly used for pilot training and instruction, for example in the German Armed Forces or the Japanese Air Self-Defence Forces.

Following the unified naming in the Airbus Group’s product range, the new T3/P3 versions of the former EC135 will be marketed under the designation H135. The EC635 P/T2e version is now available under the designation H135M (formerly EC635) as a military version – a light combat, transport, observation and training helicopter previously ordered by Switzerland, Jordan and the Iraqi Air Force.

The EC135 is one of the preferred helicopters in the air rescue sector; currently (2013) 500 of all helicopters built are equipped for medical emergencies, which represents a global market share of 25%. [3]

A joint venture between Airbus Helicopters and its Chinese partner Jimo started in summer 2017 to build a helicopter final assembly line in Shandong Province, outside Qingdao, China, where 100 H135s will be completed for the Chinese market over the next few years.

As a special feature, the EC 135 does not have a normal tail rotor, but a Fenestron tail rotor. The rotor blades are “built into” the tail, unlike those of other types. This considerably reduces the risk of accidents, especially during the difficult air rescue operations which are demanding for the HS. In combination with the helicopter’s dimensions, which correspond quite exactly to the requirements of primary air rescue, the EC135 has made an international name for itself in air rescue and is even classified by many experts as “optimal” for primary air rescue. In secondary air rescue – i.e. for inter-clinical patient transport – the EC 135 is also occasionally encountered, but the space available in the cabin is generally considered too small for use in intensive care transport. Statements from ITH crews, which use the EC 135 among others, prove this.

While the “EC 135 P1” version was initially equipped with the Canadian Pratt & Whitney turbines at the time of its market launch, the “EC 135 T1” fell back on the Turbomeca makes. Both versions were sold in large quantities.

However, when it became clear that an even more powerful engine for the EC 135 would improve the market success and performance of the model, two further versions were quickly launched. They again use engines from the above-mentioned manufacturers, each of which, however, offers even greater performance. These versions are called “EC 135 P2” and analogously “EC 135 T2”. They have now replaced their predecessors P1 and T1 in the Eurocopter range: The P1 and T1 versions are of course still technically supported, but no further examples are being built. The EC 135 can be found in every version with single or double pilot (single-pilot or double-pilot procedure).
New versions with improved performance

The two latest versions of the EC 135 are the EC 135 P2i and EC 135 T2i with increased performance and load capacity respectively.

The master model was created according to original Eurocopter documents. On a large 5-axis milling machine, the master model parts were milled in Uriol and then prepared so that the required negative moulds could be produced.

The production of all GRP parts takes place in 8 moulds. High-quality resin systems are used to produce high-strength, very light components, which in the end result in all parts necessary for the construction of the EC 135 T 3 – P3 or M. The tail is bolted to the fuselage as a separate part.

The tail is bolted to the fuselage as a separate part.

A set of ribs made of high quality aircraft plywood is glued into the fuselage and takes over the mounting of the tank, landing gear and turbine or electric mechanics.

The finished model has doors that can be opened or slid like the original.

Windows are fitted from the inside and fixed with superglue.

The landing gear is equipped with a boarding aid which is attached to the landing gear with scale fasteners.

The fairing of the turbine-gearbox-area is equipped with replicas. Various air intakes on and around the fairing complete the scale replica.

As an option, the hull can be upgraded with stern linings with rivet replicas, quick release fastener replicas. This is done after assembly and the first preparation for painting.

Further optional available additional equipment such as cockpit, LCD monitors, interior seating, searchlight, winch etc. can be ordered separately depending on the model and let your helicopter become a unique scale replica of your dream helicopter.

The tail boom can optionally be made removable.

The connection of the mechanics to the tail rotor is done by a multiple ball bearing mounted rigid drive. If the tail boom can be removed, generously designed coupling systems take over the plug connection.

To optimise the weight, the new tail boom is constructed in CFRP / GFRP and is extremely light with extreme torsional rigidity.

The model is completely assembled by us. You can choose between:

– Model ready to build, as an extension model with the desired 3D special parts according to your wishes

– Model ready to fly with drive, the desired 3 D special parts according to your wishes and the lacquering ..received.

You can choose between turbine or electric motor drive.

Electric version with chipper Q 80

We mainly use remote control components from Futaba, PowerBox, Bavarian Demon, Hacker, and Jeti. The desired attachment of 3D option special parts will be considered according to your wishes.

Mechanics

Airbus H135-T2

Mechanics HF-H135 for Jakadowsky turbines Pro 5000 and PRO 6000 or Hacker Q80.

Robust mechanics specially designed for EC 135.

Sturdy GRP side plate screwed onto aluminium bars milled from the solid form the base frame of the mechanism.

An original bevel gear set from Jakadowsky is placed between the spacer bars. It was manufactured with high precision and is driven by a main gear made of high-strength plastic. This main gear is designed for the desired speed of the rotor head for the EC 135 and is specially milled for us from the solid. This ensures 100 % concentricity. The plastic main gear then meshes with the pinion of the centrifugal clutch of the Jakadowsky turbine.

High-quality bearings complement the mechanics and allow for a long service life.

Main rotor head speed 1180 rpm

Fenestron speed 9500 rpm

Drive

Airbus H135-T2

The 8-blade Fenestron is completely made of aluminium and has a gearbox with a bevel gear combination 1:1 with a diameter of 23.3 mm. The bevel gears have cyclo-palloid teeth module 0.6.

And the tooth flanks are induction hardened.

This gives us a very high strength and allows us to transmit high torques without any problems and over a very long life time. These torques occur especially in large models and must be compensated by the Fenestron.

Fenestron equipped with ….. blades in aluminium. Mounting of the Fenestron in the rear boom via …stator holder .

Fenestron completely in metal. All parts are manufactured on high-precision 5-axis processing machines for us according to our drawings and designs.

Fenestron with gear completely mounted and gear backlash adjusted in the gear. The stator holders are included with the Fenestron.

Drive via rigid drive with multiple ball bearings, guided in an aluminium tube with connection couplings.

Exhaust system for the turbine:

Exhaust system in stainless steel design adapted to the requirements of the turbine and the model. The exhaust system is produced by Heli-Factory itself as far as possible in double-walled design. Additional insulation made of an aluminium-coated glass fabric is applied to the areas where a double-walled design is not feasible.
